More time to do ‘nothing’ – productivity tips

This is the third (and hopefully last) time that we’ve been in lockdown and no-one has the energy to write that novel or build that shed.

In the last week alone, I’ve seen or heard anti-productivity messages from at least four different places. I like the underlying message that it’s okay to do ‘nothing’; you shouldn’t feel guilty for taking a well deserved mental & physical break. To quote a very intelligent bear, “doing nothing often leads to the very best of something.” Wise words from
Winnie the Pooh.

However, productivity is more important than ever in your work-life, especially with the extra challenges that many of us face; homeschooling our kids for example. Let’s work out how you can get the most value out of the limited working time you have in the day, so you can make more time for the other things you love or need… like doing nothing.

Don't fall into these time traps

Your time is valuable, so keep it safe from these common time thieves below. If you feel like any of these are slipping into your day, take a look at the tips for how to tackle them in the image below.

Help! Make my meetings & emails disappear

I’ve been asked by several people how to reduce the number of meetings and emails that are eating up time. I’ve put together a video message to address this common question. Hopefully it will help you too.

It’s tough enough being productive in the best working conditions, so don’t worry about getting more work done. Instead, focus your effort on the value-adding tasks in your workday, so you can enjoy more time doing ‘nothing’ together at home. If you fancy a chat, get in touch.
